Early Access: Harvest Town, Nostalgic Game Like Harvest Moon

With the Harvest Moon going to Nintendo Switch, I have nothing to do but to play spin-offs of this really enjoyable game. Well, this is not actually a spin-off of the original Harvest Moon, however, it brings me back the times when the high-end console back then is just PS1.

I was given the chance to have an Early Access on this Android game, well it’s merely a stroke of sheer luck I must say. It was a really boring Saturday, I was waiting for my energy to refresh in Marvel Future Fight when I decided to check on the available games in Play Store.

Introduction

Out of curiosity and I really have this weakness on pixel style games. I just can’t ignore it. So I started the game and there was this cut scene it seems the background story of the game. The text is both Asian text and English so there is no problem in reading the backstory of the game but to be honest I skipped it.

Let’s go on with the game, shall we?

I have a weakness in pixel style games and I am a fan of complicated situation games like this Harvest Town.

Cut-scene

Why it became complicated?

The game will start with you setting up your skin color, gender and of course your name. There will be a small skit before you will actually tend to your Manor. You have this very messy Manor to take care of. You will be having clean the ground if there are wild grasses you will clean it by a sickle and if you want to remove stones in the ground you will need a pick. There were logs along the way and you will be using an ax and so on and so forth, this is not where it became complicated, moving on. The dynamics of the game is pretty simple you can earn coins in the delivery van and there is a market within your Manor you can sell a few things there up to 5 items. The complicated part here is the task in the Notice board, there is this task to have antiquities and I can’t figure out how can I get that antiquities. There is also a task there that I need to get oysters which I can not catch. I enjoyed it really also there is also a gauge within the game if the other characters are your friend. There is a connection in the tasks that you complete and their friendship gauge with you. It is represented with a heart! Yes every character when you speak with them, their friendship gauge will appear represented by hearts. I am really not sure if that is the real term for it, “friendship gauge” but there are certain parts of the town that you can not access because that character is still not your friend, up to that point I am a bit impressed with the set up of that logic.

Intorduction Skit

Why is this very important?

There are tasks and those tasks you need to speak with certain NPC, and that NPC has designation across the town. There is this daughter of the carpenter, there is someone that lives in the barbershop. And inside those establishments are rooms, so instead your character can barge in just to finish the task or quest you can not barge into their rooms because you are not their friend. You still need to gain their trust.

So if there is a logic like that on the game how can you speak with that NPC?

It’s simple and ridiculous, by chance. You can not wait for them because a day is timed so you only have a few minutes before dawn and there is certain tasks as well that you need to do so you can maintain the prosperity of your Manor. The prosperity gauge is needed for your Manor to level up.

Your Manor

You can not wait for the NPC to go out just to speak with him or her, there are a lot of things to do and daily quests to accomplish before the day ends. You need to go fishing or go to the Old Mining site to get raw copper which is needed to upgrade your sickle or ax. Upgrading will be also a challenge as the fee increases and you need a different kind of ore like gold. You can not also produce gold ingot if you do not upgrade your Melting shop and to upgrade the melting shop you need to be in level 22.

There are really a lot of interesting tasks going into the game that is why I am really hooked about it.

Download the game in Play Store.

  1. […] Harvest Town – This is a farm life simulation game, the backstory is in Japanese but as per understanding on their beautiful cut scene when you first play the game, is that a city boy goes back to his ancestral farm to take care of their land. Basically, you will start with a very messy farm space. You need to remove the weeds by a sickle and you can cut wood with an ax all will be provided at the start of the game. There are daily missions and side quests that can be seen at the billboard in the plaza. You can actually go fishing on the beach or within the land you are assigned to take care of. Farm buildings can be unlocked as you progress and some parts of the town will open up as the whole story unfolds. […]
